About Somerset

♦ Secluded, private, imposing, unique.
We are not overlooked yet you have all the facilities one could wish for on site or a few minutes’ walk away. No more having to drive to restaurants or pubs, you’re on holiday, take it easy! All the pleasure but, with The Cleeve’s unique secluded position, convenience and privacy come together.

♦ Set in 266+ square miles of beautiful national park.
Exmoor is among the UK’s greatest areas of outstanding beauty.

♦ Set in a place once the seat of West Saxon kings.
References not just in the Doomsday book but the Saxon Chronicles too. We are located in a Mesolithic site, much older even than the pyramids of Egypt! Visit the petrified forest and much more.

♦ Fabulous ancient woodland.
Ideal for all sorts of adventures!

♦ Breathtaking Exmoor location.
See nature at its best. Handy for the Quantocks and Brendon Hills too. Even Dartmoor isn’t so far away.

♦ Located in what is probably Exmoor’s loveliest village.
Hawkcombe and Porlock make up one of the greatest places you’ll find to stay anywhere in the world (and we looked high and low).

♦ Trails straight from the property.
You can go directly from the huge lawn to a bridleway. Or you could take the winding garden path over our private bridge across the stream and saunter up the quiet country lane deeper into our spectacular setting. You could spend weeks without the need to drive anywhere to start and end your treks.

♦ Restaurants, pubs and shops: 2 minutes walk.
There are 3 pubs, one dating back to the 12th century, several restaurants and plenty of shops for everyday needs. We’ve stayed in places where facilities like this are miles away but when you’re on holiday you just want things to be convenient and, at The Cleeve, they are.

♦ Walking, biking, riding, fossil hunting, sailing, site seeing… hang gliding
Enjoy it all, there’s so much more.

♦ Sports facilities.
In addition to all the usual superb offerings in the Exmoor hills and our own gardens there’s still more. Over the quiet lane and visible from our elevated patio there are the village sports facilities including a tennis, football, cricket, bowls and rugby clubs. Liaise with the clubs for availability.

♦ Childrens play area.
There is a large public children’s play area just across the lane (and visible from The Cleeve) which is ideal for young children. Your children staying here can also play in our garden, just keep an eye on them especially smaller ones so you can find them! Remember that there’s a lovely stream and some steep banks as well as the level lawned areas.

♦ Ideal luxury location.
Get the best of both worlds by staying close to the border of the great counties of Devon and Somerset.

♦ The Wildlife of Exmoor.
31 native mammals, including the majestic red deer and Exmoor pony. More than 244 different species of bird, 100+ species of nesting bird, over 1000 types of flower.
